Is it just me, or is there a large slice of the population who no longer recognizes censorship when they see it? Read more here. Between banning books and revising history, seems to be a lot of this going around.
Maybe we’re all busy with our causes, activism and politics, that we are blowing right by the fundamentals?
Being offended doesn’t give one the right to censor. Censorship itself is what everyone should find offensive.
Have you been on Twitter? Everyone wants to censor now. A girl posted a pic of the cover of Carve The Mark by Veronica Roth on her arm and shared it on Instagram, and people went nuts, telling her it was a “trigger” for self-harm (the gold supposedly looked like it was bleeding down the arm). They “asked” her to take it down (which means they demanded she take it down), and wanted an apology. She refused and turned off comments. I am proud not everyone has gone nuts. The Continent got “pushed back” (probably never go be published) because it was insensitive and somehow passed the sensitivity read but not public opinion.
The world has gone crazy.
